Memorial Day

What does Memorial Day stand for? Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for the soldiers that fought in the American Revolution and their families. It is also to thank those who are or have been in the military service. Many people go to the cemetery to honor the men and women who have died in battle with flowers on graves, flags or wreaths. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. Memorial Day is held on May 25th the last monday in the month of May. It became a federal holiday in 1971. Memorial Day was first observed on May 30, 1868. Memorial Day is both a day of celebration and of grief.
