Field Trips

By:Jay S

For all of those people wondering on why do the kids go on field trips? Basically the reason we are allowed to even do field trips are mainly for educational purposes or to improve on something. Like the recent Borestone Mountain hike field trip for the 8th Grade. That field trip was to improve teamwork with the 8th grade class for the upcoming white water rafting field trip. It also was an opportunity to see what type of leaves they could identify on the mountain as the 8th graders had just completed a unit on plants before going. They had to identify leaves on the nature trail.

Glenburn School Takes on the Misfit Sock March!

Glenburn School Takes on the Misfit Sock March!

On Friday, October 24, Glenburn School took on the challenge of wearing misfit socks for the day. We did this to show that we stand up against bullying. Almost 99.9% of the students and teachers participated, and it was phenomenal! The next pride assembly, student council will create a slideshow of all the pictures of the sock march. Hopefully, we get a great turn out like we did on Friday! Hooray, Glenburn School!

Civil Rights Team

by Civil Rights Team Member Olivia S

Yesterday, the Civil Rights Team attended a training in Brewer. There were at least 18 other teams there, from other schools. Brandon Baldwin is the schools and curriculum coordinator for the Maine Civil Rights Team Project. He ran the training yesterday, and he is so energetic and excited about what he does, and he loves it. Brandon put together a presentation for us throughout the day. One of the activities that we did was called “Community Circles.” This was when one member from each team from each school would get in groups. There would be one facilitator at each group. He/she had an orange paper that had certain prompts on it. We could go around the circle, and answer the prompt. During this activity, we met students from other schools. We learned so much, and most importantly, learned what The Maine Civil Rights Team Project is.

Cheering Tryouts!

5-6 Drama Play

by Olivia R.
5-6 Drama is doing the show, Aesop Fables. We have a lot of people who showed up for auditions. We decided to create more roles, so that everyone could participate. Starting next week, we are going to be practicing without scripts.

The presentation is going to be on November 5  at 6:00 pm. We have practice everyday after school until our performance on November 5th, unless something comes up. We have less than a month to pull off the best performance we can. We are getting better everyday and I am very proud of the 5th graders, who are doing this for the first time. Only a couple are a little nervous to be performing. I think that this play is going to be a pretty good time and a lot of fun for everyone.

Boys Soccer Game 3 Holbrook

By:Jay S
Boys Soccer Game 3 Holbrook 3/0 0-1-2 Differential: -6

Coaches insight; A very physical lead to a 3-0 defeat to the Glenburn boys team. Despite getting off to a good start  the boys started losing in the first half. The other team was very physical and they ended up taking out one of our starters early on. Though I think the boys learned more from this game then the last two.
In my own personal opinion I think the Glenburn boys did as best of the team and they were still developing at the time. I think we could have won had we been a slightly better team but I think we still tried hard.

Book Review: Better Off Friends by Morgan Matson,

by Jaeda R

The book Better Off Friends by Morgan Matson, was a great book! It was about and an adventure between two best friends, Macallan and Levi. It starts in 7th grade when they meet, and the book shows the readers the changes in their friendship from 7th grade through high school. Everyone says that guys and girls can’t be just friends, but they are. They hangout 24/7, share secrets, everything about them is close. Eventually they realize that no guys will ask our Macallan because they think she’s with Levi. But then they fall in love with each other, but are they better off as friends? This book showed love, struggle, and pain. One of my favorite stories!

Clouds Form,
No longer light and soft.
No longer sweet and warm.
Light winds,
To a howling storm.
Leaving the tears to pour,
And sadness to take over.

Book Review: The Lying Game

Book Review: The Lying Game

By: Sara Shepard

This is a wonderful book about two long lost twins who were separated at birth and when they

were 16 they found each other on the internet. Their names were Emma, and Sutton. Emma was a

foster child, switching from house to house, she never really had a good life. All she wanted was to

be able to have a family. Sutton had a great life. She was adopted by a rich family, she had

amazing friends, she had a loving sister, and Sutton got everything she wanted. Emma and Sutton

had arranged a day to meet in person. The day the girls went to meet each other someone had

kidnapped Sutton and killed her. Her killer told Emma to take over Sutton's life or else she's next.

Not knowing anything about her. Will Emma be able to convince everyone that she's Sutton?

I recommend this book to people who love mystery.

Hiking Borestone

by 8th Grader Olivia S

On Monday, October 6, 2014 the Glenburn 8th graders hiked Borestone Mountain in Monson, Maine. We left the school around 8:30 because we wanted to make sure that we got there in time to arrive back at home no later than 3:30. Around 10 we arrived at the entrance to the mountain. The foliage was amazing, and we all had a great time. The view was incredible. You could see all of Sebec Lake and other lakes and ponds around it. It was a truly amazing experience. By the end of the hike everyone was exhausted. The bus ride home was very quiet. It was a fun time had by all...

Glenburn Soccer Season Has Come To An End

   by Team Captain Jaeda R.

Sadly, the 2014 Glenburn Soccer season has come to an end. This season we came last in our division. But together, as a team, we increased in skill. We definitely improved from the first game to the last. I am very happy about the outlook on the team. Every game we went out with a bang, trying our hardest. But as I have said before, we don’t have a lot of returning players, so we could never come out with a win! No matter the score, every teammate left with a smile, knowing that they tried their hardest, I am so glad that I could be the captain for the 2014 Glenburn Girls' Soccer Team!

A Very Successful Field Hockey Season

by Captain Olivia S
A very successful field hockey season is coming to an end. They play today, Tuesday, October 14 against Hermon. Hopefully they have the turn out that they are hoping for. Throughout this season, the whole team learned how to become a team. That was the most important part to having a successful season, and they really came together and showed their Glenburn Pride. They have to thank their coaches, Danielle Andre and Amber Oakes for helping them become the team they are today. It has been such a pleasure to carry on with the team

The mountains were harder than flat land. It was very difficult to go over a giant hill.  Some people had to claw their way up the hill with their fingernails in the dirt. Some more girls would be nice because we don't have a enough girls for a qualifying team.
