Charger Student News 2014-2015

This year has been a very fun one for Glenburn school. One great unknown adventure is the Charger Student News. Our instructor Ms. Hamel has lead us in the right direction that she will be missed next year. Bryce L. and Connor R. have taken over the newspaper and haven’t trailed off from where they started. They got it to more than 2,000 page views in a school year. If this will be a RTI next year I’m sure they’d love to do it again. This school has been through a lot this year and the Charger Student News family would like to thank everyone who’s read this blog. Sadly since the end of the year is near we have to close the blog until later. Sorry for the inconvenience. We hope to be back writing again next year. Thank you for the support!

Band and Chorus Trip

Every year the chores and band on a trip to fun-town. this year it is on friday may 29th. it’s more known for the fun part but there is singing that takes place. we first go to a school then sing. then have fun at the nearby amusement park. at the middle school we will sing and then be judged and told how we can improve our singing.

David Letterman Late Show

Ever seen Late Show with David Letterman?  August 30th, 1993 was the starting of Late Show with David Letterman.  The show went on for 22 years and ended on April 20th, 2015.  

The show had the top ten list of what people have never been able to say to David Letterman in person.  Since it was the last show on air everyone thought that it’s time word got out.

Late Show had Alec Baldwin as #10, Barbara Walters at #9, Steve Martin as #8, Jerry Seinfeld as #7, Jim Carrey as #6, Chris Rock as #5, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as #4, Peyton Manning as #3, Tina Fey as #2, and Bill Murray as #1.

It’s funny/hilarious but at the same time sad because of Letterman retiring.  Fans are sad yes but Lettermans replacement will be as funny as him.  We all say to hopefully you had fun having the show on air for 22 years and just good luck.

Bangor Soccer Club

One Bangor Soccer team consists of Glenburn and Corinth players. They had a bad start in the beginning but, have worked their way back up. The team’s name is Gravity and they lost the first game. Little did they know that they would win the next two games strong. The last game was won 6 to 1. The opposing team had a good offense but, once Gravity got the ball over the offense and up the field, going around the defense was easy.

NJHS School Dance

National Junior Honor Society will be hosting the last school dance of the year. The dance will be on Thursday, June 11 from 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm. The question is, what will the theme be? Will it have something to do with celebration? Or will it be like the biker and surfer dance last year?

Last Days of School

There are only a few weeks left of school and then it is summer. Where we all get tan and not have to be woken up in the mornings. There are 10 school days left for the 8th grades which includes the rafting trip. So that makes only 8 normal days left! For the rest of us we are here longer at 14 days but that includes the field trips we are going on. Before you know it school will be out! don’t start to slack on the last days, push through it and end strong.

Book Fair

The book fair run by Scholastic is occurring this week. The choices of books range from little kid’s picture books to kids in the eighth grade, or higher. There are even some “do-it-yourself” books to draw or write in when you’re bored. Most of the books are somewhere between $6 and $13, but right now if you buy one you’ll get another one for free. The book fair occurs a couple times every year, but this is the last time for this year, ending Friday, so get your “buy one, get one free” books soon.

Fitness Testing

End of the year fitness testing is going on today and they are seeing if you have

gotten stronger after the course of the year. A lot of kids did seem to get stronger and

they have improved over the course of the year. Here are a couple of things that we

have to do… We have to do the shuttle run, push ups, sit ups, bar hangs, and the sit

and reach. Each thing is harder on people that weigh a little more because they have to

carry more weight with each thing they do.

Skillet

Skillet is a band.  A christian rock band with a husband and wife John and Korey Cooper with a little help by Jen Ledger and Seth Morrison.  John Cooper is the lead singer/bass guitar, Korey Cooper is the guitarist, Jen Ledger’s got  drums, and Seth Morrison is the lead guitarist.  

Skillet has 13 albums coming from 1996 to 2014.  That’s 159 songs total.  There is only 4 people making the songs though?  Wrong there.  Right now there is only 4 people but for many years people have been leaving and joining.  Then leaving and joining again.  

John has been in the band since 1996.  Korey has been in the band since 1972.  Jen has been in the band since 1989.  Then there’s Seth that’s been in the band since 1988.  

There have been others like: Ken Steorts was in the band since 1996 to 1999, Trey Mcclurkin was in Skillet since 1996 to 2000, and Lori Peters was in the band since 2000 to 2007.  

Many people have been in the band Skillet and have left.  But right now there are 4 of the most talented musicians right now for the newer Skillet.  Later on there will be more songs and more albums for the band Skillet for you all to enjoy.  If you like christian rock bands, I’d suggest you try Skillet.

Projectors

Do to time moving forward many schools have abandoned the beefy light bulb  projector for the new computer hook up.  In this school only 3rd through 8th grade have computer projectors. There are three types, two plug in and airplay. Airplay is mainly in 7th and 8th grade and plug in is the rest. The reason is 7th and 8th grade has the macbook air has airplay compatibility and 6 doesn’t, and 3 - 5 don’t have laptops. In grades 3-5 go to the computer lab and only the teachers use them in the classroom. That concludes the classroom projector story.

Ice Cream Social

On Tuesday May 19, 2015 Glenburn Elementary School is hosting an Ice cream social. The Ice cream social will be held at 6:30pm. An Ice cream social is an ice cream party. An ice cream party is a planned event and the primary focus is ice cream. There is also other events going on at the school other than the ice cream. There will be an art show of the student’s artwork. There will also be presentations in the middle school wing. The rooms that are available to go into have middle school projects. The middle school students will have a tri-fold, a 5 page or more report, and an interactive 3D display in front of the tri-fold.

Hat Day

You can pay one dollar to wear a hat all day at school and pay another dollar to listen to music during lunch. I think it's a waste of money to listen to music during lunch. You can't use your phone it has to be an ipod or ipad. Most of the time in lunch you are talking to your friends anyways so it doesn't matter.

Food Challenge

In health class we have been assigned to keep track of what we eat and how many calories so I challenge you folks out there to keep track of what you eat for 1 day. At the end of the day tally up all the calories and if you are around 2000 calories you are good. It all depends on your activity. Having sports for a couple of hours will burn a lot of calories so you will need to eat more calories. Elite athletes eat A LOT!!! The Rock Johnson eats 6500 calories a day and most of that is protein to build muscle. An elite swimmer Michael Phelps eats over 10000 calories every day while he is training during the olympics. So if you eat around 2000 calories a day you are all set for a healthy day and it is also kind of cool to see how many calories are in things you wouldn’t expect.

Teacher Appreciation Week

National Teacher Appreciation Week occurs the first week of May. However, in Glenburn we celebrate it the second week of May. For Teacher Appreciation Week so far there’s been a whoopie pie table on Tuesday, a free lunch Wednesday, and free coffee and breakfast on Thursday. Teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world. Without them, no one else would be able to learn. Therefore, no one else would be able to get jobs or know anything.

EW!

Jimmy Fallon is a male american comedian, a television host, an actor, singer, writer, and producer.  He is a male not a female but in his new show called Ew! he acts a little bit girlish.

In the show Ew! he plays Sara and says, “No h because h’s are ew!”  “She” has blond hair, wears dresses, acts like a teenage girl named Sara.  In the beginning of the show he introduces himself and has nail polish on.  He acts like a girl and he looks like a girl when he’s ready to start the show.  

Jimmy Fallon has singers to songwriters, actors to comedians, you name it.  He’s got boys dressing up like girls and girls just being girls, men to women and women to themselves, dogs to cats, you name that.  Amazing humor for an amazing thing made by this man.  Feedbacks have come back saying that this was hilarious.  Best show that has been made in all time of television.  Others think different but if you watch the show yourself you’ll say different.  

This show even has their own new song called, Ew! featuring Will.i.am as Mir.i.am.  You can easily tell that Will.i.am doesn’t really look like a girl but he sounds like on at least.  In the song Jimmy Fallon raps so fast that you can barely understand what he’s saying.  It’s amazing.  Good singer/rapper though.  Watch the show Ew! and listen to the song and I guarantee you that you will laugh your head off.
