Double Snow Day?!

Do you think that we should have had that double snow day? The people on the newspaper committee say that we should have had them. Students say we deserve those days off and it was earned… but we might have to go to school in July. More on this topic next week.

On Thursday, February 12, 2015 the Glenburn school has Jump rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart. Hoops is for 6-8 and Jump Rope is for K-5. This is the 8th year they are doing this. As much money as you can get people to donate is great! The money goes to the American Heart Association and the Glenburn school. The most money for the donation will get more P.E. time for their class! There will be lots of prizes. The due date for the last donations will be January 30th.

School Snow Days

School Snow Days     by.  Andrew S.

When we have snow days it’s taking away summer vacation.  Our school should do homework on our computers at home if we have them at our house and count it as a day at school.  The more snow days we have the less of summer vacation we have.  If we work at our house we will have more summer vacation.  If you don’t have a computer you can take the snow day and you can have some of your summer vacation away.  I think that we should have snow days because some kids may have lot’s of stuff to do on the weekend and might not have time to play in the snow.  Also some kids might need a “brain break”.  Also if you’ve been meaning to do something during the week you can do it on a snow day.

On January the 22cnd the chorus members will be going to The State House.  They will be meeting up at the school at 7:30am and will get back right before the busses leave.  Chorus will be singing the National Anthem for The State House this year.  Chorus will be singing for the representatives and others that will be there.  This will be very exciting for the people that just joined chorus this year.  People will love it that they will get to see the people of The State House.

RIVALS

By: Isaac V

We have a big upcoming game against our rivals Holbrook. Last year we made it all the way to the semi-final game. The game was really tough. We were hanging in there but sadly the time ran out and we lost. This year we’ve come back bigger and stronger and ready to win. Lets add another W onto our record. That will make us still undefeated after our 8th game. Last year 3 of the 4 teams from Holbrook made it to the championship and this year Glenburn is looking to knock them out. I would recommend to all the Glenburn fans to watch Glenburn take on Holbrook because they should be some tough games check us out during play-offs or even January, 13th right after school.

Listening Instead of Reading

Listening Instead of Reading.
By: anonymous

Audible is an online site where you can purchase and listen to books. Audible is available on your iPod, phone, tablet, Kindle, iPad, computer, etc. They have over 150,000 books to chose from, with new books added frequently. Audible is beneficial for anyone who doesn’t like to read or is too busy to read. So if you there’s a book you have to read for school and really don’t want to, why not listen to it? You can listen while doing homework, going online, or doing most anything. Audible does cost money, $15.00 a month, but if you have a promo code you get the first month free including one credit (you can purchase books with credits). Many YouTubers are signed up with Audible and provide promo codes, such as www.youtube.com/tyleroakley who suggests a new book each month. I highly recommend Audible for everyone.

RIP Stuart Scott

January 4, 2015 was a very tragic day for ESPN as Stuart Scott’s life sadly came to an end at the age of 49. His main slogan was Boo-Yeah! Whenever someone in sports made a good play. He interviewed the players and coaches of the championship team for the NBA. His final words were “When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live.” Stuart Scott lived a successful life as a broadcaster for ESPN. #RIPStuartScott

Millinocket Is Being Saved

  Millinocket Is Being Saved
                                                   By.  Andrew S.

Millinocket lost there logging mill and is now going in a big dept.  Not a lot of people are living in Millinocket right now so Mike Seile and Sean Dewit are trying to come up with ideas to save this city.  Personally I think it’s a great city because there is a lot of famous landmarks around it.  It has a lot really good sight seeing sights too.  The one thing they're missing is a major brand and some more minor businesses.  Mike and Sean had an idea to get more companies, factories, and businesses up there.  The more businesses that are up the the more people that will live there.  It’s not just them coming up with ideas it’s the whole city and the city board doing it too.  You could help Millinocket too and make a big difference in the city.  You could don’t just have to do it in Millinocket you could do it in other cities too.

How We Can Stop Bullying

                          Bullying
How We Can Stop Bullying

Many years in Glenburn ,preschoolers to adults, adults to preschoolers it’s very easy to say something mean to one another.  It’s not nice to bully each other.  Everyday someone gets bullied and we try to stop it but they just go on and do it again.  People might hate each other but lets try to keep that to yourself and to not bully that other person because you don’t like them.  I have a great suggestion for this task.  Why don’t we have an assembly with all the boys and girls that were bullied and bullied others.  We can make a line lining up to the stage.  Lets say that we don’t have the staircase right beside the stage.  Someone stands on the stage and says how they are sorry for bullying that other person and making them feel bad.  Then once that person is done saying how bad they feel about bullying that person or multiple people they stand backwards and fall down with their arms out wide like an airplane.  If people catch that person that falls down it will mean that they forgive that person for what they did.  It would be a great idea for a bonding experience for the person that got bullied or bullied another person.  If we are nice to other people that we hate or like then we wouldn’t have this problem.  Just don’t show it and everyone will be fine.

Text Abbreviations

Text Abbreviations
By: Alex C.

Is it worth abbreviating text in text messages. Most people abbreviate words while texting so that they can say what they want to say and stay within the character limit. But sometimes it just confuses the other person, making the person who sent the first message have to send more messages meaning, more money, for the more texts. However if you were to send a message to a close friend who would understand it be less money and you can get your point across. So in some cases it is worth abbreviating text but not all the time.

Scientists track super-small pollutants that are inhaled into the brain

Scientists track super-small pollutants that are inhaled into the brain
Brown clouds made up of noxious gases, dust, soot and even finer particles hang over buildings and hug the ground of polluted cities. When people are outside they can’t help but breathe in. In Mexico City there is air pollutants that can hurt your lungs but, can also damage the brain. This kind of air pollutant can lead to serious health problems like gasping and wheezing. The contaminated air goes to the respiratory tract that helps supply air to the lungs. Also, nanoparticles can sneak into the lungs and can enter the bloodstream. From there, these materials travel throughout the body. Some share of them will end up polluting the brain.

After the grand jury decided to not indict a white New York police officer for the death of Eric Garner, a black man. I believe that the grand jury did not have enough evidence to indict him that is why he was set free. I think the grand jury frustrated that the protesting started because they couldn’t do anything about it. The protesters are using garner’s final words as a rallying cry. To most people it would seem it was obvious to indict him because they got it all on video of Garner uttered the words while he was dying on a New York sidewalk but, because of the police officers claim they are unsure and could not indict him.
