HUGE SNOWSTORM COMES THROUGH GLENBURN

by Olivia S

The state of Maine got a huge snowstorm this past weekend. The roads were terrible, cars were off the roads, power was lost, and people were extremely frustrated. In Glenburn, almost every family lost power. Those who have a generator are very fortunate because the power is still lost by many in Glenburn. I am the oldest of 3 sisters, and we lost power on Sunday around 4:30. We still do not have any power, and it has been very chilly in our house. Luckily, we had a snow day on Monday so we could go to our friends’ house and take showers. We stayed the night there because our house still had no power. Last night, we still didn’t have power, so we had to stay in a hotel. The school offered overnight accommodations to all Glenburn residents that needed a warm place to stay. The fire department also gave a certain amount of time for Glenburn residents to make their dinner, and eat. Hopefully, the power comes on soon because many are suffering of no heat, water, and light!

Glenburn Soccer Season has Come to an End

by Team Captain Jaeda R.

Sadly, the 2014 Glenburn Soccer season has come to an end. This season we came last in our division. But together, as a team, we increased in skill. We definitely improved from the first game to the last. I am very happy about the outlook on the team. Every game we went out with a bang, trying our hardest. But as I have said before, we don’t have a lot of returning players, so we could never come out with a win! No matter the score, every teammate left with a smile, knowing that they tried their hardest, I am so glad that I could be the captain for the 2014 Glenburn Girls Soccer Team!

DRAMA POSTPONED

By: Olivia R.

The 5-6 drama play has been moved to Thursday at 6:30 because we were suppose to have a full dress rehearsal but there was a bad snowstorm and a lot of people’s power went out and no one could drive on the roads.  So we are having a full dress rehearsal tomorrow and the play will be this Thursday.   I am pretty sure everyone has memorized their lines. I hope there isn’t any problems with this change.  If there is we are very sorry.  Have a nice day.

A Blizzard on the First Day of November

by Austin S
Every night all I have to do is stare at candles, and the only warmth comes from my dog. My house doesn't even have water. To get water we have to go to the store to buy jugs of water. The only thing we have to eat is sandwiches from the store, chips, or stuff off the grill. We were so cold we almost went to a hotel to get a shower and charge our phones and get warmth. The first time I saw the snow I thought it was going to be great for the next couple days, but nope just coldness. I even heard a transformer went up in flames. It's only my rode that doesn’t have power, because right outside our rode everyone else has power.

Spotify or Pandora?

Spotify or Pandora?

by Mia M
Pros of Spotify
  • Get to pick your own songs
  • Barely any commercials
  • You can create
  • Can listen to the radio
  • Follow artists and see new songs by them or what songs they like
  • Instead of liking a song by song you can just click save and you have all the songs
  • Available in 23 countries
  • 20 million songs
  • Interacts with Facebook you can have new recommendations your friends make
Cons of Spotify
  • They have some commercials but not a lot
  • You would need wifi to connect
  • It can be a little confusing if you don’t know what you're doing
  • After 6 months of free service you are limited to 10 hours of songs per month
  • 3 times more expensive than Pandora’s free ads
  • Has failed to compensate artists fairly

Pros of Pandora:
  • You can somewhat choose your favorite music by liking it
  • Mobile app is free
  • You can discover new artists or songs related to your search
Cons of Pandora
  • Limited song selection
  • You don’t get to pick a specific song
  • You can’t rewind, or repeat
  • Only one track per album could be played at a time
  • After a certain amount of skipping through songs you can’t anymore
  • Tons of adds

The decision is based on opinion, but my opion would be Spotify.

Glenburn School Will Miss You, Miss Robinson!

Last Friday was Miss. Robinson’s last day teaching at Glenburn School. All of the students, teachers, and staff wore pink for Miss. Robinson. She has been teaching at our school for 30 years, and she has been amazing. Unfortunately, I never had her for a teacher, but she treated me and the rest of the students as her own. She has done a phenomenal job teaching at Glenburn School. If you ever got a chance to walk by her in the hallway, she always had a huge smile on her face. On Friday, she left school in a limo, and many of the students and staff stood in a line. She got into the limo and waved goodbye to Glenburn School.
Miss Robinson, you will be miss

Reading Aloud

by Jaeda R

“Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. When the rhythm and melody of language become a part of a child's life, learning to read will be as natural as learning to walk and talk.”
Reading to younger kids is also a way of “Paying it Forward.” When we were younger, older kids read to us. It made us feel important, that someone would take time out of their time to teach us to read was a big deal. Reading just one book can impact a kids live more than you know. I think we need to educate our youth more, and reading is the start.
